5 Interesting facts about Lord Krishna

Lord Krishna is one of the major Gods of Hinduism. He is considered as the 9th Incarnation of Lord Vishnu, one of the supreme 3 Gods of Hindu pantheon.
Lord Krishna was the central figure of Mahabharata. He was the charioteer of Arjuna in the war of Mahabharata. He is known as Gopala (protector of cows) and Govinda (god of cows).
He was born in Mathura. His real father was Vasudeva and real mother was Devaki. However due to certain situations, he was raised in the house of Nanda and Yashoda.
Due to his black complexion, he was known as Kanha, Krishna or Shyam, all of which mean black colored. He is popularly known for his Bhagavad Gita.
He told the Bhagavad Gita to Arjuna in the battlefields of Kurukshetra just before the war was going to start. His Bhagavad Gita is the most sacred book of Hinduism. The points and facts which are written in Gita prove to be true even in today’s time.

Krishna’s heart is still alive even today!

In the Jagannath temple of Puri, it is believed that the heart of Lord Krishna is placed in the Idols of Lord Jagannath. According to the scriptures, when the funeral of Krishna was being done, the heart was not burnt. After that Krishna instructed Arjuna in his dream to throw his heart in a river. The heart turned into a blue diamond. This blue diamond was later found by King Indradyumna who put it in the Idols of Lord Jagannath. We have written a post on this, you can read here.

Draupadi and Eklavya were siblings of Krishna

Draupadi belonged to Chandravanshi Yadava Clan. Like this, Draupadi is said to be the sister of Lord Krishna. While Eklavya was the son of Devashru who was the brother of Vasudeva (father of Krishna). So Eklavya was the cousin brother of Lord Krishna.

Lord Krishna has 108 names and was the master of 16 skills

Lord Krishna is already known by many names. But in total, he has 108 names and he was the master of 16 skills. Even Lord Rama was master of only 12 skills. Due to this reason, Lord Krishna is known as Purnavtara or the complete incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Hari, Shyam, Kanha, Banke Bihari, Vitthala, Dwarakadhish are some of his names.

Lord Krishna was black in complexion not blue!

Many people think that Krishna was of blue color, which is obvious as he is shown in blue color in many images, temples etc. But this is not the truth. Actually Krishna was of dark black color. But due to his powerful and magnetic aura, Krishna appeared to be blue in color.

Krishna’s whole clan was destroyed in Mahabharata itself

After the war, Gandhari had given Krishna a curse that his whole clan will be destroyed in 36 years. This was because she was in grief after knowing that all the Kauravas died in the war. This led to anger in her and she gave him a curse. Due to this, his city, Dwarka, was also submerged in sea.
