Dasharatha was the mighty king of Ayodhya. Ayodhya was a very prosperous kingdom and was ruled by the Suryavanshi Dynasty.
Dasharatha had three wives, Koushalya, Kaikeyi, and Sumitra. Koushalya gave birth to Shri Rama. Sumitra gave birth to Lakshmana and Shatrughna. Kaikeyi gave birth to Bharat. When the sons of Dashratha grow up, he sends to gurukul for Vedic studies.
After all, when they come back, Lord Rama married Sita. Also, the three brothers of Lord Rama married the three sisters of Sita.
Lakshmana married Urmila, Bharat marries Mandavi, and Shatrughna marries Shrutakirti. But Kaikeyi, after some time, started harboring jealousy for Lord Rama.
He wanted her son to be made the king of Ayodhya and asks King Dasharatha to instead send Lord Rama on an exile of 14 years.
After this, Lord Rama, Sita, and Lakshmana went on exile to forests for 14 years. While at the exile, a demon Surnapankha sees Rama and gets impressed by his beauty. Rama gently rejects her by saying that he is already married.
Then she asks Lakshmana and gets rejected by him too but then she starts insisting him. In anger, Lakshmana cuts off her nose.
Surnapankha sees this as her insult and takes refuge in the shelter of her brother Ravana and tells him to avenge Lord Rama.
Ravana was already impressed a lot by the beauty of Sita. He made this as an excuse to take Sita. One day he managed to lure Rama and Lakshmana out of their hermitage and forcefully abducts Sita.
He takes her to his Lanka. When Rama returns, he sees no one. Then he sets out on his journey to find and kill Ravana.
He befriends Hanuman and Sugriva, who in turn help him to kill Ravana and take back her Sita. Meanwhile, doing all this, his exile also finishes, and he returns back to Ayodhya.
Then after his return, he is crowned as the king of Ayodhya. After that, he lives happily and makes Ayodhya prosperous (Also called as Rama Rajya).
