Shri Hanuman Chalisa lyrics in English with meaning!

Lord Hanuman is one of the major and most worshiped Gods in the Hindu pantheon. He is considered as the remover of obstacles (Sankatmochan) as well as the god of bravery and courage.
In the times of difficulties and problems, it is advised to recite the Hanuman Chalisa daily to remove the obstacles that are coming in your life.
Tulsidas Maharaj, one of the famous Hindu saints and poets of 15th century, wrote this famous Hanuman Chalisa. Chalisa means a set of 40 hymns praising someone usually a God in Hindi. Hanuman Chalisa is a compilation of 40 hymns in praise of Lord Hanuman.
According to historians, when the Mughal ruler Aurangzeb had captured Tulsidas Ji Maharaj, he imprisoned him in jail for 40 days. It is then when he composed this Chalisa. Everyday he wrote 1 hymn thus making 40 hymns in 40 days.
On the last day when he compiled this Chalisa and recited it; a huge army of monkeys broke out in the palace of Evil Aurangzeb and wreaked havoc. Then the Aurangzeb realized his mistake and released Tulsidas Ji Maharaj and even gave him gifts along with asking for forgiveness.
From then, the Hanuman Chalisa became popular and everybody started reciting it to remove evil energies and obstacles from their life.

Shri Guru Charan Saroj raj, nij man mukuru sudhaar;
Barnau raghubar bimal jasu, jo daayaku phal chari
After polishing the mirror of my heart with the dust of my eternal Guru’s lotus feet, Now I recite this hymn in praise of the greatest king of Raghukul Dynasty who gives fruits in all the 4 fields of Life.
Buddhiheen Tanu Janike, sumirau pawan kumar;
bal buddhi vidya dehu mohi, harhu kalesh vikaar
As you know my Lord, my mind is of less intelligence, I remember the Son of Wind who gives me wisdom, power and knowledge and removes all the evil energies and difficulties from my life.
Jai Hanuman gyan gun sagar, Jai kapis tihu lok ujaagar;
Ramdoot atullit baldhama, anjani putra pawan sut nama
Hail Lord Hanuman, who is equal to the ocean of wisdom, skills and knowledge. Praise Lord Hanuman who radiates his vibrant energy in all the three worlds (Earth, Hell and Heaven).
Being the servant of the lotus feet of Lord Rama, his power can’t be matched in whole world. Along with being the son of Mata Anjani, he is also known as the “Son of Wind”.
Mahavir Bikram Bajrangi, Kumti Nivaar sumati ke sangii;
Kanchan Baran Biraaj Subesa, Kanan kundala kunchit kesha
Being very courageous and brave, your power is like a big thunderbolt. You eradicate the evil thoughts and remain with the people having good thoughts in their minds.
Your skin is of blissful golden color and you wear pleasing clothes. Also you have big and beautiful earrings in your ears and your hair is thick, black and curly.
Hath bajra aur dhwaja biraaje, Kandhe mooj janeu saaje;
Shankar suvan kesarinandan, Tej pratap maha jagbandan
You hold a powerful mace and the flag of Dharma in your hands. A sacred thread (Janeu) adorns your shoulders. You are the avatar of Lord Shiva and the son of Vanar King Kesari. There is no limit to your immense powers and the whole universe worships you.
Vidyaavaan Guni ati chatur, Ram kaaj karibe ko atur;
Prabhu Charitra sunibe ko rasiya, Ram Lakhan Sita man basiya
You are wise, clever and skillful. You are always eager to help and do the work of Lord Ram who is your master. Oh Lord Hanuman! you become delighted by listening the praise of your master, Shri Ram. Being the right one, Shri Ram, along with Laxman and Mata Sita, reside in your mind.
Sukshma Roop dhari siyanhi dikhawa, Bikat roop dhari lank jarawa;
Bhim roop dhari asura sanhare, Ramchandra ke kaaj sanware
Taking the form of a small organism, you appeared in front of Mata Sita. After that, you took the giant form and burnt Ravana’s Lanka. Taking the Mighty and powerful form, you slaughtered the demons and established the rule of Dharma. This is how you completed all the tasks of Rama easily and successfully.
Laaye Sanjivan Lakhan Jiyaaye, Shri Raghubir harsh ur laaye;
Raghupati keenhi bahut badhai, tum mam priya bharat sam bhai
Bringing the Life-giving herb (Sanjeevani Booti), you revived Laxman. Seeing this, Shri Ram became very happy and praised you very much and said that you are like a brother to him.
Sahasra Badan tumharo jas gaave, As kahi sripati kanth lagave;
Sankaadik Brahmaadi Munisa, Narad Sarad sahit Ahisa
Saying this, Lord Rama came to you and embraced you. Sheshnaag with his thousand heads, always recite your glory. Sages like Narada and Sanaka, Gods like Brahma always praise you and sing your glory.
Yam Kuber digpaal jahan te, kabi kobid kahi sake kahan te;
Tum Upkaar Sugreevanhi keenha, Ram milay rajpad dinha
Lord Yama (God of Death), Lord Kubera (God of Wealth) and all the lords of the four directions, poets, writers, Nobody can express your glory and power.
You helped Sugreeva by introducing him to Lord Rama and regaining his kingdom. Thus you gave the kingship to Sugreeva.
Tumharo Mantra Vibhishan maana, Lankeshwar bhaye sab jag jaana;
Yug Sahasr Jojan par Bhanu, Lilyo taahi madhur fal jaanu
Just like Sugreeva, even Vibhishana became the king of Lanka. The Sun which is located almost thousands of miles away from earth, you swallowed it understanding it to be a fruit.
Prabhu Mudrika Meli mukh maahi, Jaldhi langhi gaye acharaj nahi;
Durgam kaaj jagat ke jete, sugam anugraha tumhare tete
Keeping Lord Rama’s ring in your mouth, which he gave himself to you, you crossed the oceans and went to Lanka. All difficult tasks become easy just by your grace.
Ram Duaare tum rakhware, hott na aagya binu paisaare;
Sab sukh lahe tumhari sarna, tum rakshak kahu ko darna
You are the guardian deity of Lord Rama’s holy abode’s doors. Without your permission, no body can get the Darshans of the supreme Lord Rama. Those who take shelter in you, find comfort and pleasure. As you are the savior of us, so why we need to worry?
 
Apan tej samhaaro aape, Teeno lok haank te kaape;
Bhut pishaach nikat nhi aave, Mahavir jab naam sunave
Only you can withstand your magnificence. All the three worlds start trembling just with a roar of yours. Ghosts, Spirits, Evil Demons don’t even come near if anyone starts reciting your name.
Naase rog hare sab peera, japat nirantar hanumat bira;
Sankat Te Hanuman Churaave, Mann Kram Vachan Dhyan Jo laave
You eradicate all the diseases, problems, difficulties from a person’s life who regularly chants your glory and praises you.
You remove us from difficulties and hence you are called as Sankatmochan. One who serves you with pure thoughts, words and deeds; always remains blessed.
Sab par Raam tapaswi raja, tinke kaaj sakal tum saja;
Aur manorath jo koi laave, soi amit jeevan fal paave
Lord Rama is the king of all. But you carried and completed all his tasks. One who comes in your shelter without any greed or desire, always remain blessed throughout the life.
Charon Yug partap tumhara, hai paisiddh jagat ujiyara;
Sadhu-Sant ke tum rakhvare, asur nikandan ram dulare
Your vibrant glory fill all the four ages with merry and joy. Your glory is famous in all over the world. You are the savior of all the Great Sages and Saints. You destroy demons and are beloved by Rama.
Ashta Siddhi nau nidhi ke data, as var deen janaki mata;
Ram rasayan tumhare paasa, sada raho raghupati ke daasa
Mata Sita gave you a boon by which you give 8 Siddhis (8 types of powers) and 9 Nidhis (9 types of wealth). You have the fragrance of Ram’s devotion, Oh mighty Lord! Always remain the devotee of the Supreme Lord Shri Rama.
Tumhare bhajan Raam ko pave, janam janam ke dukh bisrave;
ant kaal raghubarpur jai, jahan janam haribhakt kahai
When a person praises you, he gets to see the Darshan of Rama which eradicates all the problems and sorrows for ages.
In the last time of life, The person will go to the sacred abode of Shri Rama, and always remains a devotee of him.
Aur Devta Chitta Na dharai, Hanumant sei sarva sukh karai;
sankat kate mite sab peera, Jo sumire hanumant balbira 
The person who serves Lord Hanuman with all his hearts, needs not to serve any other God as he gets all the pleasures and the worship of other gods gets done by serving Hanuman only.
Jai Jai Jai Hanuman Gosai, Kripa karhu gurudev ki naai;
jo shat baar path kr koi, chuthi bandi maha sukh hoi
Hail Lord Hanuman! Please bless us with your grace as the best Guru. Anybody who recites this glory of yours 100 times, will get rid of all problems and bondages and get all pleasures.
Jo yeh padhe Hanuman chalisa, hoye siddhi saakhi gaurisa;
Tulsidas sada hari chera, kijay naath hriday mah deraa 
 One who chants this glory, gets rid of all bondages. Even the Supreme Lord Shiva is witness to this. Tulsidas is a servant of Shri Hari Vishnu and may he always remain a servant of that Lord.
Pavan Tanay Sankat haran, mangal murti rup;
Ram Lakhan Sita sahit, hriday basahu sur bhoop 
Oh Son of Wind! You are the destroyer of problems. Please always reside in my heart with Shri Ram, Mata Sita and Shri Lakshman.
